Artist Ellen Colcord founded the Colcord Art Studio School of Greenwich in 2002. Since then she has taught hundreds of students ranging from pre-school to adults throughout the greater Greenwich community. The school's focus is to offer an intimate space for her students to explore their creative expression through drawing, painting and mixed media. Ms. Colcord teaches in small group settings, accepting up to five students per class to guarantee that everyone receives personal attention, but also develops playfulness with art through camaraderie with the other participants. Parents often get involved by assisting in developing group classes with their children’s friends. In essence, tailor-made classes can be organized.
Ms. Colcord is an internationally recognized fine artist and educator who has taught and exhibited her work internationally for over 25 years. She holds a Master of Arts from New York University and has extensive Master’s studies at Yale University and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Urbino, Italy.
Along with her school in Greenwich, Ms. Colcord works with Convenant House and Grace Church in New York City where she has created art programs for the homeless. Over the past few years, she has taught art history classes at New York University for the Global Scholars Program in New York City and in Paris, France. While in Paris, she has offered lectures to her students at such locations as the Louvre Museum and the Musee de Orsay. She has also been active in Central and South America, sharing her talents with disadvantaged children in Guatemala, Costa Rica and Peru. In 2015, she curated an exhibition/fundraiser called "GIRLS" at the Rogue Gallery in Chelsea. The proceeds were donated to La Alianza, a homeless girl’s shelter in Guatemala City to support battered and abused teens in Guatemala.
Both children and adults have much to gain from the experiences that the Colcord Art Studio School can offer.
